The Drum
The Family Fair is Nearly Here!
The Family Fair is Nearly Here!

Excitement is building as we count down to this year’s Family Fair. Our Class 4 Fair Coordinators, Nick Van-Bell, Huw Morris, Sylvia Robinson, Eva Dellow, Amelia Axton and Ben Cunnington, together with the wider Class 4 parent community and GPA, are putting the finishing touches on what promises to be a wonderful day celebrating the spirit of Glenaeon.
The Fair is one of the highlights of our school year, bringing together the qualities we value most: community, connection and a sense of belonging. We warmly encourage all Glenaeon families to give some time on the day so the event can run smoothly. You can add your name to the volunteers list here. Every helping hand makes a difference.
Around the School
Last Friday, we welcomed our incoming Year 7 students to Middle Cove for Orientation Day. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to meet new classmates, explore the campus and begin looking ahead to the exciting journey that awaits them next year.
Today, all three Glenaeon campuses marked World Teachers’ Day with morning tea and messages of appreciation for our staff. This day recognises the dedication of teachers and all those who contribute to the learning, growth and wellbeing of young people. Thank you to each and every member of our team.
We also recently celebrated the Year 8 Project Showcase, where students presented the culmination of months of independent research, creativity and perseverance. Families gathered in Sylvia Brose Hall to view an impressive range of projects and witness the depth of learning that can emerge when students are supported by passionate teachers, expert mentors and engaged families. Congratulations to all involved.
Class 1, 2027
On Wednesday, current Kindergarten families were informed that Lucy Armstrong will be the Class 1 teacher for 2027. While this news remains under wraps for our Kindergarten students a little longer, we are delighted to share it with the adult community.
Lucy is a highly respected and experienced Steiner educator whose contributions to Glenaeon have spanned roles as Class Teacher, Primary Librarian and Primary Coordinator. After completing a six-year class cycle in 2024 and currently leading the present Class 6, Lucy is looking forward to beginning a new Class Teacher journey in 2027.
There are still a small number of places available in Class 1 for next year. If you know of families who may be interested in joining our community, please encourage them to contact enrolments@glenaeon.nsw.edu.au
Enjoy the weekend,

Glenaeon Family Fair
Fair Volunteers - Reminder
Fair Volunteers - Reminder
At the Glenaeon Family Fair, just two hours of your time can make a huge difference. Each year, hundreds of small contributions come together to create one big, colourful and very special day for our community. And this year, we’d love you to be part of it. Whether you’re a parent, staff member, student in Years 9–12, or part of the wider Glenaeon community, there’s a place for you. Most volunteer spots are simple, essential 2-hour shifts across the Fair weekend, including:
Friday: Fair setup
Saturday: Fair Day stalls, activities and support
Sunday: Pack-down
Please visit the Volunteer Roster here: https://bit.ly/gffsup26
Choose the stall, activity or task that suits you, select your preferred time and follow the prompts to sign up. It only takes a couple of minutes, and no account or login is required. You can also sign up for family members or others at the same time. Once registered, you’ll receive a confirmation and reminder email, with SMS reminders available if selected.
A few things to know:
- A Volunteer Declaration for child safety may need to be completed where required: https://bit.ly/gffdec26
- CIP credits apply for parent volunteers. After the Fair, parents will need to submit the hours they volunteered so they can be recorded against their family’s Glenaeon fee account. Learn more about CIP credits here: https://bit.ly/glenaeon-cip
Pick a shift and join in!
Whether you can spare two hours or more, your contribution really does make the Fair possible. It is also one of the best ways to get involved, meet other families and be part of what makes the Glenaeon Fair such a special community event.

Honouring Coral Paterson
Honouring Coral Paterson

Coral Paterson, a cherished member of the Glenaeon community and a beloved teacher, musician and mentor, passed away on Wednesday 28 October 2026.
Coral's connection with Glenaeon spanned an extraordinary period of nearly seven decades. As she often recounted, her association with the school began in 1959 when, as a student teacher, she visited Sylvia Brose's classroom to observe Steiner education in practice. She later joined Glenaeon as a Class Teacher, guiding a class from Year 1 through to Year 8, and became a deeply respected and much-loved educator whose influence continues to be felt by generations of former students and her many, many colleagues.
Following her class teaching years, Coral taught Music in the High School and, after completing a Master of Music at UNSW, returned to Glenaeon in the late 1990s to develop the school's lyre program. Through her teaching, countless students discovered the beauty and discipline of the lyre, an instrument she championed with dedication and artistry. Beyond the classroom, Coral led the Sydney Lyre Ensemble for many years and enriched the life of the school through her musical accompaniment at MidWinter Festivals and other community celebrations.
Coral's warmth, wisdom and enduring commitment to Steiner education touched the lives of students, families and colleagues alike. Her legacy lives on in the music she shared, the students she inspired, and the generations of Glenaeon alumni who continue to remember her with great affection. Our thoughts are with Coral's family, friends and all who were fortunate enough to learn from and work alongside her. She will be deeply missed and gratefully remembered.

Year 7 & 8 Participate in the Australian Mathematical Olympiad
Year 7 & 8 Participate in the Australian Mathematical Olympiad

Please see below the speech presented by Zoe Y. of Year 8 and Jaxon R-N. of Year 7 to our High School assembly on 21 October:
Today, we’d like to take a moment to recognise the achievements of our Years 7 and 8 students who participated in the Australian Maths Olympiad.
For those who may not be familiar with it, the Maths Olympiad is a mathematics competition designed to challenge students beyond the standard school curriculum. Rather than simply testing how quickly we can calculate or how well we can remember formulas, it asks us to approach unfamiliar problems, recognise patterns, and think creatively.
And that’s what makes the Olympiad so valuable. It teaches us to be patient when a solution isn’t immediately obvious, to learn from mistakes, and to keep exploring different possibilities. It reminds us that mathematics isn’t just about getting the right answer — it’s about developing the confidence and persistence to tackle problems we haven’t encountered before.
We’re very proud of everyone who took on this challenge, and today we’d like to recognise some particularly outstanding results. Please hold your applause to the end.
In third place, with 6 points each, we have four Year 8 students: Zayd M., Anouck A., Bodhi A. and Isabella I. Congratulations to all four of you.
In second place, with 7 points each, we have Jaxon R-N. from Year 7 and Zara D. from Year 8. Well done to both of you for your excellent results.
And finally, in first place, with 11 points, we have Zoe Y. from Year 8. Congratulations on an outstanding performance. Let's congratulate these students.
This year, there have also seen some additional achievements worth celebrating. I was fortunate enough to receive a certificate recognising a result in the top 25% of achievers across Australia. In addition, Jackson and I each received a medal for being the highest achievers in our respective year levels at Glenaeon. In consequence, we are both very grateful for this recognition.
These results reflect not only mathematical ability, but also the curiosity, dedication and willingness to take on challenges that we hope to encourage throughout our school community.
So, congratulations once again to all our award recipients, and to everyone who participated. We hope these achievements inspire more students to explore mathematics, embrace challenges and enjoy the process of discovering something new.
Year 8 Projects Presentation
Year 8 Projects Presentation

The Year 8 Project Showcase is always an exciting moment in the calendar for Year 8 students. It represents the culmination of a whole year's work on a project of their own choosing and design and is an important step on the journey up into high school. This year, we had a wonderful collection of projects ranging from chicken coops to boxing gloves to stop motion films with all kinds of artworks, books and other wonderful ideas in between. The quality of the projects was very high and it was such a wonderful feeling to be able to stand back and observe each student talking proudly about their work to all the visitors on the day.
As we walked around the projects on Sunday, we couldn't help but notice how each project reflected not only the work the students put in (and yes, the challenges and setbacks too!), but also who they are, what they see and value in the world and in themselves as growing young people. We'd like to acknowledge all the hard work of the Year 8 families in helping the students to bring this together. We're extremely proud of everything the students have done.

Year 9 Art: Learning Through Art, Country and Place
Year 9 Art: Learning Through Art, Country and Place

Over the past two weeks, our Year 9 students have returned to Arthur Boyd’s Education Centre at Bundanon to deepen their artistic practice in a setting rich with inspiration. Working with acrylics, painting en plein air (in the open air) and exploring reverse drawing techniques using erasers, students extended their creative skills and discovered new ways of seeing and expressing the world around them. Inspired by Arthur Boyd and his family of artists, they approached their work with curiosity and imagination, producing some wonderful results that will be showcased at our upcoming Year 9–11 Art Exhibition. An invitation soon to follow.
The experience was further enriched by an evening session with Jaz Corr, a proud Dharawal woman, artist and Head Teacher at Vincentia High School. Through a movement-based Acknowledgement of Country, Jaz invited students to connect with Country before guiding them in creating miniature gunyahs (traditional shelters). Students then explored the interplay of light and form by drawing the shadows cast by their sculptures. Beyond the studio, students were immersed in the remarkable surroundings of Bundanon, staying in the award-winning education centre designed by architect Frank Gehry. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to offer our students such an inspiring experience.
