Yr 7 -10 Languages Restaurant Excursions

04 July 2024

Last term, our high school Languages students enjoyed participating in excursions where they sampled traditional food from Japan, Germany and Spain. Our Year 9 and 10 Japanese students visited the The Japan Foundation in Chippendale to participate in workshops and share lunch together. This non-profit cultural organisation was established by the Japanese government to promote cultural and intellectual exchange between Japan and other nations. The students enjoyed a Japanese lunch at IPPUDO where they chose their meals like Ramen and Bento from the menu by ordering in Japanese language.

Our Year 7 and 8 Spanish students also enjoyed lunch together at Lola Cocina, a delicious tapas restaurant in Crows Nest. The students learned about the origins and tradition of sharing tapas and sampled patatas bravas, ensalada mixta, empanadas de verduras, albóndigas y churros- all accompanied by festive, unsweetened sangria. A wonderful time was had by all.

On the Northern Beaches, Yr 7 and 8 German students visited the Bavarian Cafe on Manly Wharf where they sampled a typical Southern German feast - giant pretzels to start, sausages, meats, schnitzel and potatoes, followed by a traditional pancake dessert.

Year 9 and 10 Spanish and German students spent a day in the city - in the Rocks, Circular Quay and Botanic Gardens to enjoy a scavenger hunt. They had to direct, find clues and ask questions in Spanish and German to navigate. Combining forces was a great opportunity to teach each other and exchange language skills. They then went to lunch at El Camino Cantina in The Rocks and enjoyed sampling tacos and burritos.
