Annual Appeal + News

In the final few days of the financial year we ask that you consider contributing to the Glenaeon Annual Appeal for 2019 if you have not done so already. Our goal this year is to go even more green than we have ever been! The successful installation of solar panels at Castlecrag where the campus, in summer at least, is off the grid on a regular basis, has inspired us to do the same at Middle Cove.

Our Annual Appeal 2019 will support funding of solar panels on the roofs of the Sylvia Brose Hall, and the Design and Technology Building. In addition, we will commit funds:

    • to replace standard lights with energy-efficient LED lights throughout the Middle Cove and Castlecrag Campus and

    • to install energy-efficient heating and cooling systems throughout classrooms in the Middle Cove Campus.

Every gift helps!! To give, go to Glenaeon’s Annual Appeal at https://www.glenaeon.nsw.edu.au/giving/donate-now

Go Greener in 2019! Annual Giving campaign

WHY WE'RE KEEN TO GO GREENER:

At Glenaeon we have long recognized the importance of leading strongly and acting decisively in addressing global warming and climate change. That’s why this year we have chosen to focus on Sustainability for our 2019 Annual Giving Program. As well as reducing our carbon footprint, we will dramatically reduce our costs. Our Annual Giving Program helps support specific projects which will benefit the lives of current students and future generations of students.

In 2019 we need to raise $100,000 to HELP GLENAEON GO GREENER IN 2019! GOING GREENER ALSO MEANS DRASTIC CUTS TO OUR ENERGY BILLS

With your help we can:

* Install Solar Panels at our Middle Cove Campus on the Sylvia Brose Hall roof and the Design and Technology roof
* Replace standard lighting with LED energy efficient lighting
* Create a more comfortable learning environment through installing energy efficient heating and cooling systems in classrooms

As well as reducing our carbon footprint by going greenER in 2019, we can slash our energy costs and redirect a large percentage of this money to important educational initiatives.

PLEASE DONATE HERE - select 'Glenaeon Foundation Building Fund'

The Giving Program at Glenaeon provides opportunities for the entire Glenaeon Community to contribute to scholarships, new buildings, in kind donations and small projects. Tuition fees only support the day to day operation of the school so we depend on your support to continue to develop our facilities. Through our giving program you can help make a difference for your children and future children who attend Glenaeon.

Your contribution makes a great deal of difference to your children's schooling and comfort, our school's carbon footprint, and the environment as a whole. Thank you.

Kindergarten and Little Kindergarten applications for 2020 closing soon

A reminder that Glenaeon's applications for Kindergarten and Little Kindergarten 2020 are closing soon so please forward your applications now - we have limited places available. Interviews have commenced, so we ask that if you are interested, or know someone who may be, to please send your application in and/or share this with your friends and networks.

Part-time Kindergarten is a lovely 3 day a week program (Mon - Wed) that also guarantees you entry into Kindergarten. Little Kindergarten is for children 4 turning 5 in 2020. It is a gentle, creative and play-based program that includes baking, drawing, open-ended play, story-telling, singing, painting, gardening and craft. It is a nurturing and caring environment that is an excellent stepping stone in the year prior to children starting school.

Kindergarten (Mon – Fri with Wednesday as a half day) is a natural, loving and creative environment where the children learn through ‘playing and doing’. The child’s day is filled with a range of diverse activities, and all classes are small to enable teachers and children to forge a close relationship. After school care is available until 6:00pm for those who require longer hours.
For all enquiries, please call our Enrolments Registrar Chandra Kennedy on 94173913 and see our website at  https://www.glenaeon.nsw.edu.au/enrolments/how-to-enrol

Traffic Management Plan

Parking rules - ordinary school days

Glenaeon is located in a residential neighbourhood with very narrow streets. Because of this restriction, the School asks that parents and guardians park and or drop-off their children in specific areas to keep the traffic flowing, children safe and our neighbours happy!

 1. No one is to park or drop-off in Greenfield or Victoria Avenues, not even to kiss-and-ride
 2. Parents of Class 3 and 4 students may drop off and collect in Glenroy Avenue, but must ensure they park legally and do not impede driveways.
 3. No one is to park or stop in the No Stopping areas at any time
 4. No one is to turn into the school driveway, or any other drivewayto drop off or to attempt a three point turnPlease turn in the cul-de-sac. Continued below

Class 5 - Gardening and composting the Mid-Winter Spiral greenery

Life is full of cycles, and so it is at Glenaeon. Everything has its life cycle, and as we strive for a low-impact campus and as much recycling as we can, our MidWinter Spiral greenery was lovingly chopped and composted by Class 5 this week. Our campus composts as much of its paper, cardboard, greenery, garden clippings, food waste, clay and other natural materials as it can. Composting is not just for food waste - a healthy and functional compost system can transform a huge a amount of waste into healthy, bio-rich soil for gardens and plants. The gardens are the 'living centres' of our campuses, and students have some of their lessons learning about biodiversity, ecology, food technology, gardening and food whilst in the garden. They are open for students to drop in and help as well as structured classes.

Year 10 Commerce Food Market in the amphitheatre

Year 10 created a bustling food market in the amphitheatre last Tuesday for their Commerce project on products and marketing. Enticed with a great selection of things on offer, the school came to shop and food sold out in minutes. Reflecting on the first ever event, it was noted to prepare more food for next year's event, due to it's popularity! Well done Year 10 and History and Commerce teacher David Alami for creating and hosting this initiative!

Class 1 developing writing and literacy skills

As Term 2 comes to a close next week, Class 1 are immersed in their 'Nature Stories' Main Lesson, and are well on the way to developing their writing and literacy foundations. Careful attention is placed on consonants, vowels, syllables, word and sentence construction, as well as form-drawing, letter shapes and sounds. Their Main Lesson books become pictorial stories in themselves, which are complemented outdoors as they explore the rich surrounds of our local area during bushwalks. Gardening teacher, Sandra Frain accompanies them on bushwalks, which is always insightful as they explore the local flora and fauna. There are ALWAYS things to discover!
